Back to School 2020 style

Well, this year has been a special one, hey?  Of course, it was the year I decided to start my business - this business - which hinged on me being able to visit people's houses. This, of course, was immediately scuppered by COVID-19. On the plus side, lockdown gave me some time to work on my website and marketing and hone my services further. I also decluttered my entire house more than I ever have before, so I worked on my processes to ensure they would work for my clients as well. But frustration was a big emotion for a lot of that time. I'm sure most of you can relate.

One of my other main focuses during lockdown was homeschooling.  We had packed all school uniform away, so we didn't have to look at it for a few months and tried to work on getting all my daughter's work done without falling out with one another.  Ensuring she had an accessible place for all her homeschool bits was a great help. Meal planning was essential, so we did not waste precious food and planning the week (although slightly fruitless sometimes) helped us keep looking forward.

As lockdown started to lift, I metaphorically stuck my head out of the door and pressed publish on my website and Facebook and Instagram pages. I told all my friends Room to Breathe was up and running and mentioned it to all who asked (and some who didn't!).  I asked for testimonials from clients who I'd worked with pre-lockdown to ensure other people believed I could do this, as well as just me and my family thinking it. As things were starting to move forward, I got so excited! I had initial consultations with clients and more enquiries for the future. I was pumped up and couldn't sleep, so I decided to help my followers get ready for the big Back to School as this September would be like no other. Typing on my phone frantically into the wee hours of the night as my boyfriend slept next to me. I put together my first week's print out. I uploaded it. I set up a landing page. I asked people to join and sign up to get more info...

And then my phone broke...out of nowhere. It wasn't an old phone. I'd only had it for 18 months but 18 months of information is a lot to lose in one fell swoop. Nothing could be retrieved as it died such a drastic death and the repair centre would've had to wipe it anyway to keep their privacy agreement.  I was devastated. I had so many processes and lists of things I needed to do and that my clients would need to do but backing up my phone (or a client's phone) had not made it on to the list. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, hey?

My next two weeks worth of Back to School tasks were on my phone too, so now I am devastated that I haven't been able to complete my printouts for you.  My planning was on my phone, and my photos were on there too.  So, a free tip from me to you would be BACK UP YOUR PHONE NOW. Please heed my warning and do it now! Make sure all your photos and notes and anything else useful or precious is in the cloud or on a hard drive somewhere and safe.  We rely so heavily on our smartphones these days, it's just common sense to keep all that stored information secure somewhere, and you better believe it will be on all my systems and processes lists for my clients!

Just to top off the remaining couple of weeks before school starts, my family and I are now in quarantine until my daughter's first day because we visited my parents in France for a few days! But no fear...if you would like an initial consultation I can do this by Video Call so please book in here or call me on 07730310049 and we can get this set up as soon as possible!

I've decluttered, now where do I take it all?
